To list only 7 wonders seems like an injustice to the marvel that we call Earth! Here at Your Limitless Travel, we are constantly inspired by the many lists that compile these wonders, whether Ancient, Modern, Natural and so on. From the supercontinent of Pangaea to the map that we know today, time has proven to produce some incredible phenomena.
With only one of the Ancient World wonders still existing, it is important to reflect on the various lists that compare recent beauties. Newer records date between the 19th century and today, including many that have been formed by Swiss foundation New7Wonders. Due to our immense love of travel, we have decided to comprise our own entrancing 7 wonders list! With some admirable candidates, here’s what we’ve narrowed it down too:
1. THE GREAT BARRIER REEF, AUSTRALIA
Azure waters filled with colourful corals - the Great Barrier Reef is part of the Underwater and Seven Natural Wonders of the world. Situated off the coast of Queensland, Australia it is the largest coral reef system in the world. Home to an incredible range of biodiversity, it makes the Your Limitless Travel seven.
2. IGUAZU FALLS, SOUTH AMERICA
These dramatic waterfalls are nothing shy of a dream. Over 275 individual cascades grace this geographically blessed landscape, paired with jungle-clad valleys and meteorological rainbows. Having recently grown almost a metre in height, this glorious mount welcomes adventure seekers everywhere – are you brave enough to hike it?
4. HA LONG BAY, VIETNAM
Towering stone islands make up this Vietnamese archipelago. Where emerald waters kiss jungle-clad isles and fill enchanting caves, sailing the bay is an experience like no other. Making the New7Wonders Nature list, this mythical environment is a UNESCO World Heritage site too.
5. GALAPAGOS ISLANDS
This insanely biodiverse archipelago is so unique that it contributed to Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution! Positioned among rich Pacific Ocean waters and benefitting from an equatorial climate, the islands possess an unbelievable variety of flora and fauna. Most notably the Galápagos tortoise, you will also discover eccentric reptiles, mammals and birds.
6. PETRA, JORDAN
Nicknamed the ‘Rose City’, these vibrant pink stone cliffs are truly breath-taking. This famous archaeological site is home to hand-carved temples, ornate tombs and gorgeous theatres. A precious kingdom that dates back to the 3rd century, this otherworldly wonder makes it the oldest member of the Your Limitless Travel seven.
7. SIGIRIYA, SRI LANKA
An ethereal beauty found on a less trodden path. Located on the pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka, this beautiful and elephantine fortress boasts an extensive network of gardens, palaces and outstanding frescoes. Translated as the ‘Lion Rock’, this eye-catching rock stands at nearly 200 metres tall!
